Parliament Winter Session Live: The Lok Sabha meets today for a two-day discussion marking 75 years from the adoption of the Indian Constitution, with a similar debate set for Monday and Tuesday. Views expressed will majorly be around the importance and evolution of the Constitution since adopted on November 26, 1949, all of which is overshadowed by an endless confrontation between the ruling NDA and the Opposition-party Congress, leading to deadlocks in parliamentary proceedings from weeks on end.
The main cause of this impasse is allegations about Prime Narendra Modi being involved in the Adani issue and counter accusations on Congress leader Sonia Gandhi with billionaire George Soros. Because of that, the two Houses are adjourned again and again starting from November 25.
It’s still as good for the Congress as it is with the rest of the opposition allies: the Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party. They have all branded the Congress and, for that matter, the BJP for disrupted parliamentary wok because of their squabbles.
The Lok Sabha was going to make their discussion complete to take place in the presence of defence minister Rajnath Singh leading the governing narrative.
Around 12-15 MPs from BJP and its allies, including former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena, and Jitan Ram Manjhi, are expected to take part in the discussion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to draw the curtains for the concluding remarks on Saturday in the context of the debate and counterattacks by the Opposition.
Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition will take in bringing up the Adani issue. But taking such a position would perhaps cause strains with Opposition allies, as they are more likely to raise regional issues and governance issues.
The word of the speech by Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra would be awaited very much, especially since it follows her controversial expulsion in the final sessions of the previous Lok Sabha.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah will spearhead the BJP’s retort to the charge of ‘save the Constitution’ by the opposition on Monday in Rajya Sabha.
The slogan came into prominence as early as this year as different parties came up with the idea that the government’s policy was busting the fundamental tenets of the Constitution just before Lok Sabha elections.
Both these parties-in this case, the BJP and Congress-have issued a strict three-line whip to their MPs ensuring attendance in the house on the scheduled debate on December 13-14.
