Parliament Ambedkar Remark Controversy: Lok Sabha Adjourned Sine Die; Rajya Sabha Session at 12 PM

about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar – The whole country today stood witness to a dramatic adjournment of the Lok Sabha sine die, inundated by a heated furore over the remarks – or should we say euphemistically ‘an unfortunate slip’ as attributed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah

The Bitter Provocation

Dr. Ambedkar has, in fact, always been a part of the audience. In this instance, Mrs. Suman Shah made remarks during the debate in Rajya Sabha, when comments were made on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by Amit Shah. The opposition felt that whatever he talked was quite inappropriate in terms of Ambedkar, who is known as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, stated a loud ‘shame’ for both houses, and also crowded in front of the well from which the angry members then proceeded to shout slogans.

Sine die Adjournment of Lok Sabha

Very much of the same session of Lok Sabha, met with sordid protests from opposition MPs, who took offense and accused Shah of maligning Ambedkar. Things spiraled out of control leading to fisticuffs between the members of the BJP and Congress. Hence, the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla, had to adjourn the House sine die.

Rajya Sabha Sessions at 12 pm.

The again adjourned Rajya Sabha in the uproars now expects it to resume again today at 12 pm. Opposition MPs have vowed to continue their protest until Shah issues a formal apology. The proceedings are expected to be as hot as debate-ready opposing sides, but with the two sides preparing for battle, this session is expected to be equally contentious.

Political Reactions

A series of political stirrings followed the incident. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the BJP for the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, calling it the government’s desperation. She later congregated at Vijay Chowk with other INDIA bloc MPs in protest demanding Shah’s resignation.

In contrast, BJP leaders have endeavored to defend Shah’s remarks, accusing opposition parties of distorting facts and using the issue for political mileage. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna drew the analogy that the NDA government has always related to Ambedkar with due respect, but the Congress has shown disrespect to a Dalit icon.

Conclusion

The Parliament Ambedkar remark controversy now adds to the already thick political ambience in India. The Rajya Sabha will reconvene soon, and all eyes will be trained high on the proceedings. The case illustrates how deeply political tensions run and the power play going on between Congress and BJP for battle of the narrative within the country.
